Right to be heard

In any deed restriction enforcement matter, you have the opportunity to be heard at the regular meeting of the property owners association. Please bring your request to the Board in advance so that you may be included on the agenda.

Message from the President...

Due to the Nov. flooding our Nov. meeting was held at the KW/FC Fire Station. We regret if anyone missed the meeting due to location change. Councilman Rob Todd was unable to attend but he sent representation from City Hall. The following gentlemen were present: Charles Alien (Houston Public Works), John Randolph (Harris County Flood Control), Thos. Buchanan (Houston Solid Waste), Roger Whitney (Waste water operations), Burton Johnson (Harris County Flood Control), Mike Aspan and Bobby Rivers (Health Dept), Clay Haynes (Harris County Flood Control), Corina G. Love (City of Houston EM), and A. Garcia(HPD). All speakers were very well informed regarding problems associated with the flooding and possible buy-outs. I have the phone numbers. Ben Neiman made arrangements for a qualified "Disaster Co." to clean and disinfect both the Community Center and Bathhouse at the pool. Bids will be taken to repair kitchen cabinets, some sheet-rock in the rest rooms, painting restrooms, small meeting room, and Bathhouse. The COMMUNITY CENTER is available for renting! Thanks Ben, for a job well done!

Anyone wishing to see any improvements in the community please put it in writing: name, address, and phone number etc. that I may take it to the Board for discussion. This includes the sidewalks, entry signs into Forest Cove, parking arrangements at the Community Center. The Jan. meeting speaker is to be George Bravenec, C. of H. sidewalk co-ordinator. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvements in the community, please call me at (281) 358-2218 or drop off written comments in the mailbox by my front door.

There has been an increase in burglary, theft, and criminal mischief, in the Kingwood Area, Forest Cove has escaped this trend. This is the time of year that we need to be on HI- ALERT and watchful for any unusual activity. All residents are urged to REPORT all incidents, it's the only way the HPD can address a problem. FOREST COVE RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED THAT A CALL TO 222-3131 WILL DISPATCH AN OFFICER FROM THE KINGWOOD SUBSTATION. When calling this number inform them of your address, nearest intersecting street, and additionally Key Map Location #336 and any other pertinent information. The dispatchers handling these calls are not HPD officers, but are civilians and generally do a good job with some exceptions. Poor performance by dispatchers should be reported.

The Kingwood Substation phone number is 359-6761. Calls to this number should be directed to the Shift Sergeant or Lieutenant in charge, These calls should address such on-going problem areas as speeding, reckless driving, loud parties, or any other nuisance or obnoxious activity. Residents who are planning an extended absence from their home should call and have an alert slip made out.

Marina News

New Hours

Due to the November vlood, the Marina will be closed until further notice. We are hoping to re-open by Christmas.

see the Marina Page for more info

Forest Cove Garden Club

Judy Petrovich from Carriage House presented a program on Christmas Decorations and how to make them. Of course they are easy if you don't have four thumbs! Thanksgiving baskets were discussed and delivery plans made. The Christmas Party will be at Yvonne Stott's home, 1207 Masters Way at 11:30 AM. The Hostesses provide the Deserts and everyone is to bring a covered dish and money for the Christmas gifts for the needy families. We will have a Chinese exchange of Christmas related gifts. Gay has requested the need for any fabrics and ribbon not being used to bring to the party as they are needed for on going projects for spring plant sale. Yards of the Month will be judged Dec. 14th. Good Luck to all of you "honey-doers"!

see the Garden Club page for more info

Fightin' Frogs

It's December and you probably haven't thought much about the Fightin' Frogs since July. The 1999 board is making plans for another great season. The 1999 swim team officers are as follows:

President: Kurt Hilarides
Vice President: Susan Ecoff
Secretary: Deb Prestifillipo
Treasurer: Kari Floyd
At Large Members: Rick and Nancy Lynch
Lynette Mockbee
Paula Safarik

The board has recommended that a coaching committee, an improvements committee, an officials committee, and a legal committee be formed to take care of off season projects. If you are interested in working on any of these committees, please give Susan Ecoff a call at 359-0549. The 1999 operating budget has been approved. We hope to have coaches hired in December. Specific dates and teams in our division will be announced in January by NWAL. This information will be in your February Beacon. Please continue to use your Randalls Share Card (#6604). Our first check from Randalls was approximately $40.

Hamblen / Woodland Hills Drive Extension

There has been some discussion that the City of Houston is considering the extension of Woodland Hills Drive to Hamblen Road. It is the feeling of the board that the extension would not be in the best interests of Forest Cove. The increased traffic and speeds would endanger the residents and hinder the traffic flow entering Hamblen Road from side streets. If you are opposed to this potential extension, please write to Councilman Robb Todd and send a copy to the FCPOA Board of Directors.

The July 4th Celebration

The July 4th BBQ is a long-standing tradition that is important to our community In previous years, this was handled by the F.C. Volunteer Fire Department as a fund raiser, and a very good one at that. It can also be a very good fund-raiser for our Community Association, but in order to do that we must prepare it ourselves and not have it catered. We are looking for anyone interested in helping prepare "The BBQ for 1999". If you can help in anyway, plan, provide freezer space, cook, prepare, set-up, serve, clean-up or help in another capacity, please contact Steve Atchison at home, (281-358-7648) work (281-590-9400) or e-mail at jsa1954@netscape.net. We will try to have an organizational meeting early in "99", but need to hear from you ASAP.
