1999 Trash Bash & Cove Cleanup

Sponsored by SouthWest PaddleSports 200 volunteers braved cool temperatures and windy conditions on Saturday March 27th to pickup about six tons of trash from the Cove. Fifteen Forest Cove residents, 15 from the Woodlands, 20 from Conroe, 45 from Cleveland Middle School, Girl Scout troops 8054 & 3793, Boy Scout troop 1655, Kingwood High School's National Honor Society, French Club & Beta Club, and Jesse Jones Park volunteers were among the many cleaning from canoe and shore.

Oldies rock band "Vintage" played as 280 gourmet hot dogs provided by SouthWest PaddleSports & Keep Texas Beautiful, Inc. were served. Dr. Pepper provided the beverages.

Thanks especially to Forest Cove residents Marie & Fred Hurd and Dave Mauck for their extra hours of help. Marie also volunteered at the Garden Club's plant sale in the afternoon. The Cove looks great thanks to all who gave their time!

- Patti Carothers and James Graham.

SouthWest PaddleSports is moving their store to 26322 1-45 North in the Woodlands. The new phone number is 281-292-5600. We need to move to higher ground! The grand opening will be the week of April 19th. Check our website for more information: http://www.paddlesports.com

Scenic Drive
Pick a Monday or Thursday night to drive around in Forest Cove after residents have placed their garbage out for the next pickup. You will be amazed at the number of "hungry dogs" just waiting to tear open those bags! They are all sizes and breeds. Waste Management recommends either Clorox or Ammonia to discourage them. Maybe this is a full time unfilled job to have someone just ride around and spray the bags or maybe residents could just remember to keep their pets secured specially on those two nights!

Water Wells

The Board of Directors has decided to propose an amendment to the existing restrictions to remove the provision prohibiting water wells. In the meantime, the Association will not proceed with action against owners who have installed water wells. However, because the restrictions presently prohibit water wells, owners are directed not to install water wells on a lot until restrictions are properly amended.

Forest Cove Garden Club

Garden Club meeting will be at the Community Center April 8th. Louise Johnson from Kingwood Garden Center will give a talk on Perennials and Annuals. The time and place for the Installation Luncheon will be announced. Luncheon cost and dues will also be collected. The April activity is a trip to The Museum of Fine Arts for "Florescense''-The Arts in Bloom.

Message from the President

According to our sign-in book, 102 residents attended the March meeting. Mr. George Bravenec, COH sidewalk engineer, discussed placement of sidewalks and the resident's responsibility once installed.

We had a very lengthy discussion with property owners who either have or want to have a water well installed. See the Water Wells announcement for further details. We all want to do what's best for the Community, but it is real hard when someone knowingly breaks our Deed Restrictions when we have been working hard to enforce them. We have another Deed Restriction problem involving the Forest Cove Baptist Church and the Northeast Christian School.

We will keep the community informed on this issue, as soon as we have more information,

There are three board positions that will be open for election in May 1999. Anyone wishing to be elected to a position on the Board please send your resume to FCPOA, P.O. Box 605 Humble, TX 77347.

Due to the fact that July 4th falls on Sunday this year, we have decided not to have our regular parade and have a bike parade for anyone interested. The route will start on Coldwater, up Forest Cove Drive to Marina Drive to the Community Center, starting at 2 PM. There will be games for the children, Horse Shoes, and the pool will be open. Steve Atchison volunteered to do the cooking and is getting a committee together to work out the menu, etc. Proceeds will benefit the operations of the pool.

Community Center Agent Wanted

Coordinate repairs, extermination services, and building supplies required for building operations.

Crime watch
The next Crime Watch Meeting will be announced in The Beacon. Crime statistics for the KINGWOOD
AREA for the month of February 1999 are as follows:
   Kingwood / Forest Cove
 Aggravated assault 1
 Auto theft 1
 Burglary motor vehicle 6
 Burglary 14
 Robbery 2
 Theft 15
 Criminal mischief 26
 Murder: sexual assault 0
 Total Crime Reports 65

Problem areas continue to be burglary, theft, and criminal mischief in the Kingwood Area, according to the above data; Forest Cove has escaped this trend. There has been in overall decrease in activity in the Kingwood area, and Forest Cove has low crime reports to the HPD for February. All residents are urged to REPORT all incidents, it's the only way the HPD can address a problem. Residents are urged not to leave valuables in full view in cars even though locked, a number of cars have been broken into and items such as wallets and purses stolen.

FOREST COVE RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED THAT A CALL TO 713- 222-3131 WILL DISPATCH AN OFFICER FROM THE KINGWOOD SUBSTATION. When calling this number inform them of your address, nearest intersecting street, and additionally Key Map Location #336 and any other pertinent information. The dispatchers handling these calls are not HPD officers, but are civilians and generally do a good job with some exceptions. Poor performance by dispatchers should be reported!

The Kingwood Substation phone number is 281-359-6761. Calls to this number should be directed to the Shift Sergeant or Lieutenant in charge. These calls should address such on-going problem areas as speeding, reckless driving, loud parties, or any other nuisance or obnoxious activity. Residents who are planning an extended absence from their home should call and have an alert slip made out.

see the Crime Watch page for more information, or contact FCPOA board member Ben Neiman at 281-358-3075.
