The Forest Cove Fightin' Frogs finished their 1999 swim season by placing 4th in Divisionals. Five swimmers represented the Frogs at the All stars Invitational meet and nine swimmers represented the Frogs at Ponderosa Invitational meet. These swimmers had to achieve qualifying times to participate in these meets. Several of the swimmers made it into the finals. The 2000 swim team board was elected on awards night. The board members are as follows: Brad Albrecht, Susan Ecoff, Kari Floyd, Jackie Hauptfieisch, Bridgette Hencey, Lori Holcomb, Jan Koshnick, Deb Prestifilippo, and Paula Safarik. They will assume their positions on October 1, 1999. The swim team will have a Back to School Party for all swim team swimmers and their families at the pool on Sunday, August 8, 1999 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The team will provide the hot dogs, buns, condiments, paper goods and utensils. Planning for next year's 4th of July Parade and Picnic has already began. The Parade will return, which means that we need more volunteers to help stage this undertaking. On July 15, 1999, I attended the monthly meeting of the Forest Cove Property Owners Association and didn't like what I thought I was hearing throughout the course of the night. It was supposed to be a meeting of the elected representatives of the property owners in Forest Cove Subdivision doing the will of their constituents. Judging from comments presented by the property owners, they didn't know who those nine people were or how they got there and, for sure, they certainly weren't doing what they wanted them to do. This meeting had the tenor of an old Houston Oiler Pittsburgh Steeler football game "al la" the "Bum" Phillips days.
Perhaps I sound like a fence-riding politician but I truly believe both sides were right yet at the same time, both sides were wrong. The nine board members elected by the property owners attempt to do the will of their electors yet receive little or no input from their constituents. Conversely, a majority of the property owners believed everything in the community was progressing satisfactorily and that was the way they wanted it. Now they want to know who rocked the boat and why?
Communication, by both sides, is the beginning of solutions for problems which now exist in Forest Cove. Communications encompass much more than just talking. To be a good communicator, you must also be a good listener. You must be patient, kind and understanding. Effective communications must be a two way street at all times. I believe that with good communications from both sides our future property owner's meetings can be amicable, peaceful and fruitful.
Let's all put the community needs ahead of our individual goals. BM9
