Parent Opportunities

For the swim team to function properly requires the active involvement of ALL parents. We encourage you to select one or two categories through which you would like to participate. Some of the work areas put you in one of the best positions to watch your child swim.

Here are the various areas you may become a part of:

Concessions
Concession workers help at the concession counter selling and serving prepackaged foods, drinks, and foods that are prepared at the meets. This is a fundraiser for the team.

Equipment
Group of individuals responsible for setting up and taking down equipment at the pool prior to home meets and setting up canopies for shade when necessary at away meets. We can never have to many volunteers to help with equipment!

Ready Bench
This group of people, working with the Clerk of Course, helps swimmers line up according to the official entry sheet and get ready to swim. They can make a BIG difference in how smoothly the meets run and in determining how long the meets last. It works best when we have individuals for each age group helping to get the kids to the ready bench - especially in the younger age groups.

Timer
Three timers are needed per lane during the meet. Timing normally runs in two shifts in dual meets and three shifts in larger meets, such as Divisionals. Timing is a great way to get involved if you can stay for only a portion of the meet or if you are new to swimming.

Scribe
Scribes are located at the end of each lane and are responsible for recording the swimmers time on the lane timer sheets.

Ribbon Writers
Responsible for preparing the meet ribbons for those who finished in first through sixth place in each individual and relay event.

Parking
Coordinates parking for home swim meets.

Publicity - Newsletter
Coordinates and publishes weekly newsletter, with all kinds of useful information.

Publicity - Newspaper
Writes and submits team information and meet results to the local newspapers.

Media
Coordinates and handles the details of video taping candid picture taking at meets, practices, pep rallies and social events.

Fourth of July Parade
Coordinates the design and construction of the float so swimmers can participate in the Forest Cove Parade.

Beautification
Plans and coordinates landscaping improvements to the pool area.

Activities Coordinator
Plans and organizes social events for the team.

Awards
Selects and purchases trophies for each swimmer and plans the Swim Team Awards Night to be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the Forest Cove Civic Center from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. There will be an ice cream social and the program will be hosted by the Coaches.

Fund Raising
Coordinates activities to raise funds that defer the individual swimmers cost. Fundraisers are much better than having to sell candy!

Sponsorships
Seeks financial sponsorships to support the team from local businesses in exchange for advertisement.

Certificate Writer
Writes name and info given on certificates that are given at Award’s Night.

OTHER AREAS THAT YOU CAN HELP WITH THAT REQUIRE SPECIAL TRAINING

Clerk of Course / Computer
This group of individuals manages the administrative functions for the entire swim team on a weekly basis and at all swim meets. Those who are interested in this position must attend a class.

Stroke & Turn Officials
Certified swim officials are responsible for recognizing if swimmer’s turns, strokes, starts and finishes are “legal” within guideline they are given by NWAL. Those who are interested in this position will be required to attend classes and take a short test. This position provides one of the best views of the swimmers during the meet.

Starter Officials
Certified swim officials are responsible for insuring a safe and fair start for the races. Those who are interested in this position will be required to attend classes and take a short test.
