President's Report
by Joe Geldens, FCPOA President

July started off with a great 40th annual Fourth of July Parade and BBQ at the Community Center. We had a tremendous turnout and a great day of fun and companionship with our neighbors. I would like to especially thank Marian Burrows and her many volunteers who worked very hard to make this a very successful event. We would also like to thank Triggs Catering and Barbeque in Humble for another great job in serving our community on this special day.
It is summer and it seems we always experience a slight increase in illegal activities. Be a good neighbor and look out for those around you as they vacation or are working in the yard.  Please report suspicious activities to the proper authorities.
Your Board of Directors is continuing working with the City of Houston and other agencies to address drainage issues in our community.
Please keep your Board of Directors in mind when you have suggestions for changes and improvements to our community. This group will work hard to address the problems faced by our community to make it an even better place for all residence. Please consider attending a monthly meeting to learn more about the issues being addressed and show your support for those who volunteer their time to manage the business of our community.

Crime Watch
by Debra Vaughn, Crime Watch Chair

The Crime Watch report will return next month.   If you are interested in being a volunteer for the neighborhood watch program, please get in touch with Deb at the phone number or e-mail address below.

Watch for unusual activity and call the police if you have any concerns. Call any crime in progress to 911 and any suspicious activity to HPD Central Dispatch at 713-884-3131. Be a good neighbor.

Fourth of July 2008
By Marian Burrows, Co-chair

Our 4th of July celebration was a big success!  We enjoyed having a lot of floats, wagons, classic cars, and bicycles.  Our Forest Cove residents sure do come out and support the parade participants and the BBQ.  We Thank You!
Our Grand Marshals for 2008 were the ladies from the Forest Cove Garden Club.  President Barbara Schmid and Vice President Gay Simmons rode in the first convertible. Thank you Ricky Osborne for being the chauffeur.  Garden club members Clarice May, Norma Symes, Martha Welu, Mary Jane Rhodes, and Joan Smith all rode in convertibles driven by Samantha Geldens, Jim Suggs and Connie Evans.  Congratulations ladies!  We appreciate all that you do for the community.
State Representative Joe Crabb rode in the parade and stayed for BBQ.  Other dignitaries who joined us at the BBQ were Judge Lynn Bradshaw Hull, COH Councilmember Mike Sullivan and HISD Board Member Dan Huberty.  Back for a visit were Aaron and Barbara Clevenson and their daughter Lara.  Pat Lykos also joined our celebration.

A big Thank You goes out to:

  • Claude Baker for being our official 4th of July Photographer.
  • Larry Middleton for contacting all of the dignitaries, for handling the tickets, and getting the helium tank.  Also for making sure we had all of our permits from the COH.
  • Kurt Hilarides who was in charge of the sound equipment and music.  We enjoyed the music of Barry Smith, Kurt and Simon Hilarides.  Thank you fellows!  You were great!
  • Kim Vaughn who registered all of the bicycle participants.
  • Joe Geldens and Jared Sadler who set up all of the tables and chairs for the event.
Jim Suggs, Connie Evans, and Jim Honeycutt for donating your time and your convertibles to the event.  To Carl Quebedeaux for loaning your convertible for Samantha to drive.
  • Millie Caramanian, Gloria & Rickey Osborne, Barbara & Bill Reavis, Jean Montes, Joe & Samantha Geldens, and Marian Burrows who decorated the inside of the building.  To Samantha, Rickey & Gloria, and Millie who decorated the outside.
  • Jean Montes for getting all the desserts lined up from Randalls, Kroger, HEB, Lawlers Cheesecake, and Blue Bell Ice Cream.  Jean also managed to get 35 door prizes and more of the Bloomin’ Onions from Outback.
  • Sam Caldwell for donating 6 of his prints.  They are beautiful and we thank you for being so generous.
  • Barbara and Bill Reavis for picking up the desserts.  Bill also helped with the ticket sales long with Larry Middleton.
  • Joe Geldens, Samantha Geldens, and Kurt Hilarides for doing a great job lining up the parade.  And to Wilbur Mass for traffic control.
  • Debra Vaughn and the Girl Scouts of Troop #3849 for handling all of the games and face painting.  Thanks also for being our color guard in the parade.
  • Marian Burrows getting the tickets, signs, decorations, trophies, and supplies.
  • Keith Arnold for the grounds and building preparations.
  • Rickey Osborne for being the chairman of the maintenance crew.  He kept things flowing with the help of the Boy Scouts from troop 1377.  Thanks fellows!
  • Joy Sadler for providing a freezer for the ice cream!  Also for watching over the cakes and ice cream.
  • The 7 a.m. balloon committee consisting of Larry Middleton, Jean Montes, Millie Caramanian, Joy Sadler, Bill & Barbara Reavis, and Joe & Samantha Geldens.

To my special “Angels” crew who helped with all of the tables, chairs, decorations, mopping, and general clean-up.  Thank you one and all and I hope I don’t leave anyone out.  Thanks:

  • Jim, Jean, & Mary Wallace
  • Barry Smith
  • Joy Sadler
  • Meredith Crowe
  • Jean Montes
  • Millie Caramanian
  • Kurt, Tru, Simon, Briget, & Loi Hilarides
  • Joe Geldens
  • Marian Burrows
  • Deb Vaughn and Adrianna Castillo along with Girl Scouts consisting of Monique Guillory, Janell & Amanda Heileman, Zabby Scott, Kim Vaughn, Kelsey Trujillo, Kat & Julianne Castillo, Amy Pavel, and Rachel Ortego.

Joe and I appreciate all of you and we want to thank all of the volunteers and the 4th of July committee members who worked so hard to make this a wonderful July 4th Celebration.   See you next year for our 41st annual celebration!
