Forest Cove Marina Re-opens
The Forest Cove marina will re-open to the public in April 2001. The Marina is located off of Marina Drive, behind the condominiums across from the community center. Membership to the Forest Cove Marina and Nature Center is open to all Forest Cove residents. Non-motorized boating by members is permitted in the cove, which currently is an isolated "lake" due to sediment filling the channel in the '94 flood. We are still pursuing options for motorboat access to Lake Houston.
A marina clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday, April 7, 2001. Anyone interested in joining the Cove Marina and Nature Center will be provided with a key to the gate ($10 annual key fee) and will help maintain the environmental integrity of the park area. Call Kurt Hilarides at 281-793-9935 for more information, or just come by the marina on Saturday.
Flag Retirement Ceremony
Girl Scout Troop 3849 will be performing a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Marina & Nature Center on April 21, 2001 (rain date May 5). This will be a solemn ritual that conforms to the procedure prescribed for retirement of U.S. flags.
The Flag Retirement Ceremony will be open to all Forest Cove Residents to observe or donate a worn flag to. The time is 9-10am on Saturday, April 21, at the Forest Cove Marina. There is a specific protocol required to dispose of a United States Flag and the girls will be demonstrating how this is done. This is the third year this group of girls have conducted a retirement ceremony but the first time they have opened up to the public. We hope to have a lot of homeowners attend so they can see what postive things youth are involved in.
We will also have flag subscriptions available for all homeowners at the same time. The young lady in charge is Anna DiCarlo. If you have any questions, pleas contact Debra Vaughn at 281-359-5821.
Thank you for your help and support.

The Forest Cove Marina was originally (and still is) one of the main attractions of the Forest Cove Subdivision. Section One was built around the cove which used to be dredged on a regular basis to facilitate boating. There was a dock with slips for boats, and the cove was open to the San Jacinto River and Lake Houston.
The Marina is located off of Marina Drive, across from the community center. Non-motorized boating is allowed in the cove, which currently is an isolated "lake" due to sediment filling the channel in the '94 flood. Canoes and Kayaks were rented at the marina, and bait and tackle was also available. It was operated by Southwest Paddlesports until after the floods of 1998. Their storefront was on the corner of Hamblen Road and Forest Cove Dr. Southwest Paddlesports was owned by a local residents Patti Carothers and James Graham who lived around the corner from the marina until they were bought out by Harris County Flood Control after the floods of 1998.
Southwest Paddlesports is now located at 26322 1-45 North in the Woodlands. The new phone number is 281-292-5600. They had to move to higher ground! Check our website for more information: http://www.paddlesports.com
